Know Your Place West of England is an online interactive heritage resource which allows users to explore their local area through historic maps, documents, photographs and oral histories. The resource allows users to search for a place or area and then view different map layers to see how that place has changed over time. Map layers include the Tithe Survey, early Ordnance Survey maps, town plans where available, and present day Ordnance Survey maps. Initially just covering Bristol, the project has been expanded and now covers, Somerset, North Somerset, Bath and North East Somerset, Devon, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire.
As well as providing access to geographical information for a large area of the south west, the website also allows users to upload information about their local area on the community layer. So far over 1000 contributions have been made.
