Somerset Record Society 2025 Questionnaire

The Society is researching ways to improve it services to members and the general public.  As part of this, we have produced the following short questionnaire, which once completed will help us in the process.

Please take a few minutes to answer the questions below or, download here and then return it to us at membership@somersetrecordsociety.org.uk or in paper format to SRS Digitisation Committee, Tor House, Ford Road, Wiveliscombe, TA4 2RE

For those that do not know, the process of converting books and other documents to a suitable format for use on the internet is known as digitisation.  The result of the process is a series of photograph-like, single page images, which can be easily searched and read. These images are linked together to produce a digital version of that book or article.

    1. Do you use the internet to research historical subjects?

    2. If the Society provided links on its website to past volumes in our series, or other historical resources, would you use this facility?

    3. If receiving our new volumes in a digital version meant the Society could save money and produce more volumes, would you support this?

    4. If there was a "Members only" area on our site providing access to digital versions of our recent volumes, would you use it?

    5. Would you be prepared to pay more for a printed book than a digital version?

    6. Would you be interested in receiving publications from the Society in a digital form?

    7. If past volumes in our series were available to order through our website in paperback would you find this useful?

    8. Do you think the Society should make some (but not all) of our volumes freely available to anyone through our website?

    9. Do you think the Society should make all of our volumes, past and present, freely available to anyone through our website?

    10. If we set up a blog on our website would you contribute to it?

    11. Do you have any skills that the Society might call upon to assist with editing or production requirements?

    12. Would you be willing to serve as a trustee of the Society, which is a registered charity?

    13. What type of records would you like to see the Society publish?

    Any other comments?

If you would like to add your name and contact details, please use the box below. We would emphasise that this is not a requirement for completing the form, but would allow the committee to contact you regarding clarification of any point that you have raised.
