On 6 January 2022, the 1921 census of England and Wales was made available for research.
After fire destroyed the 1931 census and the 1941 census was cancelled due to the second world war, the 1921 census provides a key snapshot of life in the early 20th century.
The census will be searchable on FindmyPast. It will also be free to search onsite at The National Archives, Kew and at two regional hubs – Manchester Central Library and the National Library of Wales.
You can find out more about the digitisation and conservation of the census volumes on The National Archives website, as well as a programme of events titled 20s people which they are running to coincide with the census release.
